The Legal 500 Rankings 2016
The Legal 500 heeft haar “rankings” voor 2016 gepubliceerd. Op basis van uitgebreid onderzoek dat zij jaarlijks uitvoert in de markt en onder cliënten stelt The Legal 500 een lijst samen van advocatenteams per rechtsgebied.
Kennedy Van der Laan presenteert met trots haar behaalde resultaten. In ‘Information Technology’, ‘Mediation’ en ‘Media and Entertainment’ zijn we wederom als ‘first tier firm’ op het hoogste niveau geplaatst. Belangrijke nieuwe rankings onder 'Commercial Lending' zijn Joris van Horzen en Jan Broekhuizen. Ook verwelkomen we Fenna van Dijk, die is gerankt voor zowel Healthcare als Corporate and M&A. Reindert van der Zaal is als 'Brilliant senior associate' ook een nieuwkomer in de ranking.

Information Technology – tier 1
Joost Linnemann heads up the department at Kennedy Van der Laan; he successfully defended Alert Life Sciences Computing against two customers’ claims that Alert failed to develop and implement software. The team is praised for its responsiveness, professionalism and value for money.
Media and Entertainment – tier 1
Practice head Jens van den Brink of Kennedy Van der Laan represented Telegraaf Media Group in a high-profile data protection case against NPO, and acted for KRO-NCRV in a successful appeal against an injunction brought by Media Markt regarding a video broadcast.
Mediation – tier 1
Kennedy Van der Laan maintains an active mediation practice, with a strong track record in employment-related disputes. Eva Knipschild is a registered mediator with the Mediators Federation Netherlands (MFN).
Construction – tier 2
Kennedy Van der Laan advised Prinses Máxima Centre for Child Oncology on the zoning, procurement and construction aspects of its new €100m building. The team is led by Richard-Jan Roks; he acted for Alrov Group in arbitral proceedings with the constructor of the Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam.
Insurance – tier 2
Kennedy Van der Laan’s department is led by the ‘knowledgeable’ Chris van Dijk, ‘a real authority’. The ‘pragmatic’, ‘analytical’ Frits van der Woude successfully represented HEMA and various notaries in a test case regarding the allegedly unlawful participation by civil law notaries in HEMA’s ‘notarisservice’.
Employment – tier 3
Practice head Chris Nekeman of Kennedy Van der Laan represented UWV in various dismissal cases, as well as in dealing with labour unions and works councils. The department also advised Spaarne Gasthuis, VLM, Nike and Rochdale. Eva Knipschild is praised for her ‘strong international focus’ and ‘reliable, comprehensive advice’.
Healthcare and Life Sciences – tier 3
Kennedy Van der Laan’s team is headed by Fenna van Dijk and Maarten Schut; it is the sole counsel to Prinses Máxima Centre for Child Oncology, advising it on the establishment of the hospital and research centre due to open in 2017.
Intellectual Property – tier 3
Kennedy Van der Laan’s team is headed by the ‘highly experienced’ Alfred Meijboom, with support from the ‘smart, pragmatic’ Maarten Schut and ‘brilliant’ senior associate Reindert van der Zaal. Its clients include Hermès, Converse and the Dutch Premier League football clubs.
Project Finance and PFI – tier 3
The department at Kennedy Van der Laan is headed by Richard-Jan Roks. Carolijn Kuipers is assisting Campus Diemen Zuid CV, an SPV, with the largest office redevelopment in the Netherlands. Roks advised Prinses Máxima Centre for Child Oncology on the zoning, procurement and construction aspects of its new building. Other clients include Conservatorium and Bouwbedrijf De Nijs.

Kennedy Van der Laan is particularly strong in certain industry sectors, including healthcare, IT and financial services. Annemieke van der Beek’s practice takes in state aid and public procurement. Martine de Koning is recommended.
