Within Kennedy Van der Laan the sports-law attorneys particularly occupy themselves with sponsoring contracts. Many more things are involved in the drafting of such a contract than just deciding the financial conditions.
Exclusive rights and contracts within the sports sector
Exclusive rights: may a ports club be supported by various sponsors? Or does the sponsor only want his own name on the shirt of the players? And what if the agreement is terminated because of an infringement by a player who, contrary to agreements, appears in the field dressed in a competitive brand, or fails to comply with his marketing obligations? Or if the contract expires and one of the parties wishes to extend the contract, whether or not on the basis of a right of first refusal or a matching right? Is it then allowed to still wear the shirts? Such arrangements must be set out properly in a sponsoring contract.
Sports and employment relationships
Besides experience in contract law, the Sports Law Group of Kennedy Van der Laan knows the deviating rules that apply in employment relationships within the sports world, including transfers and anti-doping regulations. We assist associations in liability issues and support players and trainers in intellectual property cases, such as image right infringement.
Our team of sports-law attorneys works for everyone who is in any way whatsoever related to the sports world and needs legal support.
